The Auglaize County Coroner's Office, under
the direction of Thomas R. Freytag, M.D. is responsible for
investing and determining the "cause, manner and mode of deaths as a
result of criminal or other violent means, or by casualty, by suicide or
sudden death when in apparent good health, or in any suspicious or
unusual manner".
Dr. Freytag is in his fifth term of office
as coroner. The coroner's office employs a part-time investigator,
Steve Stienecker and a part-time secretary. A Board Certified
Family Practitioner, Dr. Freytag is in active family practice in
Wapakoneta. Although the coroner's role is considered a part-time
job, he is on call 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Dr.
Freytag is an active member of the Ohio State Coroner's Association,
having served 2 years as President, and on the board of directors.
He currently sits on the MR/DD Victims of Crime Task Force, appointed by
Governor Bob Taft. |
